Truck Driver/Laborer

Position: Truck Driver/Laborer, Highway/Sanitation
Grade 2, Step 1 – Grade 2, Step 6

Location: Department of Public Works, 65 Sachem St., Middleborough, MA

Status: Full-time

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Wages: $24.3704 per hour – $28.2520 per hour, Highway/Sanitation Grade 2, Step 1 – Highway/Sanitation Grade 2, Step 6 in accordance with the current Department of Public Works Union Contract (in 9 annual steps)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Perform a variety of duties on assigned shift in the Sanitation department under the general supervision of the Foreperson, and driving and operating a refuse collection truck to preserve and maintain the general cleanliness of the town.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work from verbal instructions of the Foreperson and assigned schedule. Operate the refuse collection truck on a daily assigned route to pick up rubbish and operate the loading and dumping mechanism. Drive collected rubbish to designated site for dumping. Operate mechanism to dump rubbish in assigned area. Exercise caution in driving and operating at all times; show courtesy to public as indicated. Maintain truck in clean and safe condition and make necessary minor repairs. Move materials as necessary in performance of duties as directed. Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervisor. Maintain all equipment in clean, safe and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations at all time, and maintain quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have a valid Class 2 driver’s license or be willing to obtain one and must be available for on-call during emergency situations and for snow removal operations. The successful applicant shall be given a trial and training period in this position.
