The city of Watertown is seeking a qualified and dedicated professional to serve as the Veterans Services Officer (VSO) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator. This dual-role position supports veterans and their families in accessing federal, state (including MA Chapter 115), and local benefits, while also coordinating veteran-related community events and partnerships.
As ADA Coordinator, responsibilities include supporting the Commission on Disability, monitoring the city’s ADA compliance and Transition Plan, addressing accessibility complaints, and providing staff training on ADA regulations.
This position is housed within the city’s newly established Human Services department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of four years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must have experience working with veterans and have or be able to attain within six months Veterans Affairs accreditation and Massachusetts Veterans Service Officer Certification. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations impacting veterans and knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with commitment to community engagement and collaboration with internal and external customers. Ability to navigate complex problems and develop innovative solutions. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use specialty software where applicable. Must be a veteran and must have experience working with veterans.
SALARY: This position has a starting salary of $87,528 annually. Hiring above Step 1 is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
