Local leaders, community organizations and other stakeholders across the country are being asked to participate in the 16th annual Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day on Jan. 28, an effort by the IRS to bring attention to the EITC and opportunities for free tax-filing services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The EITC helps low- to moderate-income workers and families get a tax break. In 2022, qualifying families with three or more children have the opportunity to receive up to $6,728 with the EITC.

The National League of Cities offers a communications toolkit to help municipal leaders mark the day, connect with VITA partners, and work with local partners to raise the visibility of the EITC with residents. The toolkit includes a template press release, a sample email to partners, a city proclamation template, and sample social media posts.

An NLC CitiesSpeak blog post highlights the EITC and EITC Awareness Day.
