MassDOT offers workshops on new Project Intake Tool

Six training sessions will be held this fall on the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s new Project Intake Tool, a web-based application that will streamline the process of completing Project Need Forms and the Project Initiation Forms.
 
MassDOT will begin using the Project Intake Tool, called MaPIT, in October as the primary interface for all state-funded projects.
 
The intended audience for the three-hour workshops includes public works directors, city and town engineers, planners, and others involved in submitting city and town projects.
 
The MaPIT tool populates information compiled by MassDOT through GIS and screens for information relative to condition of assets, mobility and bikes, safety, and economic, social equality and environmental issues. MaPIT will expedite project initiation, environmental permitting, scoring and project delivery, according to MassDOT.
 
Quinn Molloy, GIS municipal coordinator for MassDOT, gave a presentation at the May 25 meeting of the MMA Policy Committee on Public Works, Transportation and Public Utilities about MassDOT’s GIS services, including the project intake tool.
 
The following is the workshop schedule:
 
• Sept. 20, at MassDOT District Offices in Lenox
• Sept. 22 at MassDOT District Offices in Northampton
• Sept. 26 at Woburn City Hall
• Sept. 29 at MassDOT District Offices in Taunton
• Oct. 3 at MassDOT District Offices in Boston
• Oct. 5 at the MassDOT Research and Materials Office in Hopkinton
