The MMA presented its annual Kenneth Pickard Innovation Awards to Amesbury, Cambridge and Holden on Jan. 12 in Boston.

Amesbury was recognized for its performance-based management model, tailored to the needs of the small city.

Cambridge was recognized for its partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

And Holden won for its single-stream recycling program, which is producing significant savings.

This year’s judges were Don Howell, a former Harwich selectman, and John Portz, a former Watertown councillor who is the chair of the political science department at Northeastern University.

The award is named in honor of Kenneth Pickard, the executive secretary of the Massachusetts League of Cities and Towns from 1969 to 1973.
