A free MMA webinar on March 19 will offer tips for building a sustainable document management strategy and digitizing municipal records.

Elizabeth O’Connell and Yolande Bennett, digital archivists from the Massachusetts State Archives, will discuss the difference between digitized records and “born-digital records,” how to prepare files for digitization, and best practices for digitization while complying with Records Conservation Board requirements.

O’Connell and Bennett will also cover how to process and maintain digital collections within an archive.

Christopher McClure, chief information officer in Watertown, will discuss his city’s digital transformation experience and lessons learned in the process. He will also discuss the importance of approaching the process holistically, implementing strategies to reduce the production of paper records, and leveraging state and local expertise.

Appointed and elected municipal officials are invited to register online. The 75-minute webinar will begin at noon.
