The third webinar in the Massachusetts Select Board Association’s Annual Leadership Conference series today focused on the state’s open meeting and public records laws.

The discussion, aimed at newly elected select board members and led by KP Law managing attorney Lauren Goldberg, gave an overview of the two laws, including changes made to the open meeting law during the COVID-19 emergency.

Goldberg also responded to questions on a range of topics, including how to conduct executive sessions and virtual meetings within the confines of the law.

Having a working knowledge of these laws is vital for select board members in understanding their roles as public servants in Massachusetts. More than 100 newly elected and experienced select board members from across the state participated in the webinar.

In response to the COVID-19 emergency, the Massachusetts Select Board Association’s Annual Leadership Conference has been restructured as a series of free webinars to be conducted over several months. The fourth and final webinar of the series is scheduled for Aug. 19.
