The Senate today approved a resolution outlining minimum amounts of Chapter 70 education aid and unrestricted local aid for fiscal 2012.

The local aid amounts in the resolution match what has been proposed by the governor and by the House Ways and Means Committee, which released its fiscal 2012 state budget proposal yesterday.

The House has not adopted a local aid resolution, but plans to complete its budget by the end of April.

The Senate resolution calls for $3.99 billion in Chapter 70 funding and $833.9 million in unrestricted local aid, representing a 7 percent reduction.

The agreement on local aid amounts will enable cities and towns to complete their local budgets this spring.
