Job Description

Swansea seeks a highly responsible and detail oriented individual to serve as its next Part-Time (20 hours per week) Health Inspector. Duties include

  • Perform inspections of food, tanning, commercial swimming pools/public bathing areas, recreational camps, and body art establishments in compliance with state and local regulations
  • Perform inspections of poultry (chicken coups), commercial kennels, and stables in compliance with State Animal Control Regulations
  • Maintain appropriate records for completed inspections
  • Consult with license and permit applicants and provide guidance on meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Assist Health Director with day-to-day duties. This is to include, but not limited to: answering phones, gathering information in shared folders, reporting, investigating complaints, and interacting with the public.

Experience:

One to two years of related experience in public health or food industry; degree in public health, environmental health/science, or biology; or equivalent combination of education in related field and relevant work experience.

 

Certifications Needed:

Food Safety Manager Certification, Certified Pool Inspector Certification, MA PHIT Housing/Food Code training, and Animal Control Officer (ACO) Core Competencies are required to be completed within one year of hire. Certified maintenance of continuing education credits (CEUs) is required for ongoing recertification of all required credentials.
