Topic: The Meeting Before Town Meeting: Holding a State of the Town Meeting
Before Town Meeting even begins, some towns are busy at work preparing what’s commonly called the State of the Town Meeting. This is the ‘meeting before town meeting’, where residents can learn about warrant items, ask specific questions about a certain article, or vote on the meeting process itself. It’s commonly held in towns with an Open Town Meeting.
The towns of Lincoln and Westford have been holding these meetings for close to a decade. They are now holding them virtually and are seeing record participation. Lincoln Town Administrator Tim Higgins and Westford Town Manager Jodi Ross will share their experiences, including how and why they started holding this meeting and the logistics behind holding yet another large event in the weeks leading up to Town Meeting.
