Thursday - June 6, 2019
9:00 am – 12:30 pm

The Massachusetts Municipal Management Association will hold a Women Leading Government event on June 6 at Acton Town Hall.

The day will begin with an informal networking session, followed by a discussion about “Better Than Before,” a book by Gretchen Rubin about understanding our habits and how to change them for good. Rubin has a blog, multiple TED Talks, and Youtube videos.

A panel of three dynamic speakers will discuss their early career experiences in public service. The speakers will include Worcester District Court Judge Janet McGuiggan, who previously served as the deputy city solicitor in Worcester, and Rena Mirkin, a life-long educator who spent 11 years as principal at Wellesley High School and is now semi-retired.

The panelists will speak about workplace challenges and obstacles they encountered, how and where they received support, and how their personal lives were affected by it all. Attendees will also learn how the workplace continues to evolve, and what Generation X and millennial professionals can do to sustain the progress.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. with registration and networking and conclude with lunch at 12:30 p.m.

The event is free, but registration is required. Any municipal employee, male or female, interested in advancing his or her career may register.

The mission of Women Leading Government is to encourage women to pursue management positions in local government, but any non-elected employee is also welcome to attend WLG events.
