Northborough Town Administrator John Coderre presented at the Massachusetts Municipal Councillors’ Association webinar, “Make Your Budget a GFOA Award Winner,” on Dec. 1. He covered the mandatory criteria for the award, including financial policies, budget message, trend monitoring, and transparency. He emphasized that the Government Finance Officers Association is the national gold standard for budgeting best practices, and that a community of any size should make it a priority to adopt their practices. In 2021, 35 Massachusetts entities were recipients of the GFOA Budget Award.
