The Healey-Driscoll administration on July 21 announced nearly $11.3 million in the Unpaved Roads Program grants to help cities and towns across Massachusetts maintain, repair, and improve locally owned dirt and gravel roads.
The Unpaved Roads Program, administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, awarded funding for 48 communities to invest in equipment, design or construction projects that support travel, local infrastructure, and accessibility on local roads.
Unpaved roads are a critical component of the local transportation network in many communities, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll said in a prepared statement.
“These investments will help cities and towns improve safety, reliability and resilience while giving local officials the flexibility to address the needs that matter most in their communities,” Driscoll said.
Funding amounts between $92,417 and $821,150 were awarded to Acushnet, Barre, Becket, Bernardston, Blandford, Brewster, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Conway, Deerfield, Fairhaven, Gill, Goshen, Hatfield, Heath, Hinsdale, Holland, Leverett, Monson, Monterey, Nantucket, New Braintree, North Attleborough, Northfield, Orange, Petersham, Phillipston, Plainfield, Plymouth, Plympton, Princeton, Richmond, Royalston, Rutland, Sandisfield, Savoy, Shelburne, Shutesbury, Stockbridge, Tolland, Wareham, Warwick, Wellfleet, Westford, Whately, Windsor and Worthington.
